Lorem ipsum is the scrambled Latin that designers have used as filler since the 1500s, drawn from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum. Its value is that it looks like prose, with realistic word lengths and sentence rhythm, without meaning anything, so reviewers look at the layout instead of reading. This generator builds paragraphs, sentences or a word count from the classic vocabulary and can open with the well-known "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit" line.

Sentences vary between 8 and 16 words with an occasional comma, and paragraphs between 4 and 7 sentences, which matches the density of typical body copy. Ask for a word count when a component has a strict limit, or for sentences when you need a short caption or a meta description of the right length.

The output is plain text with a blank line between paragraphs, ready to paste into a CMS, a design tool or a test fixture. It is generated in your browser on every change.

Frequently asked questions

Where does Lorem ipsum come from?

From sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, written in 45 BC. The standard passage has been altered and scrambled, so it is not readable Latin.

Is the text the same every time?

No. Words are chosen at random from the classic vocabulary, so each run differs. Only the optional opening sentence is fixed.

Can I generate a specific number of characters?

Not exactly, since words vary in length. Generate by words (roughly 6 characters per word including the space) and trim the last few characters.

Should I use Lorem ipsum or real content?

Use placeholder text only for early layout work. Real or realistic content reveals problems, such as long headings or empty states, that Lorem ipsum hides. Replace it before user testing.
