Tip and split
Enter the bill, the tip percentage and how many people are paying. Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100, total = bill + tip, and each share = total ÷ people. A 15% tip on a bill of 200 is 30, the total is 230, and four people pay 57.50 each. A comparison table shows the same bill at 10, 12, 15, 18, 20 and 25%.
If tax is added on top of your bill, enter the rate and choose whether to tip on the amount before tax (the usual custom in the US, where a 15–20% tip on the pre-tax amount is standard in sit-down restaurants) or after tax. To avoid coins, round each share up to the next 0.50, whole unit, 5 or 10: the extra goes to the tip and the calculator shows the effective tip percentage.
Tipping customs differ. In the UAE, Saudi Arabia and much of Europe many bills already include a service charge and VAT; in those cases a small extra for good service is optional. Check the receipt for a “service charge” line before tipping on top. The calculator works with any currency and does not send your numbers anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a 15% or 20% tip quickly?
For 10%, move the decimal point one place: 10% of 86 is 8.60. 20% is double that (17.20), and 15% is 10% plus half of it (8.60 + 4.30 = 12.90).
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
In the US, etiquette guides generally say tip on the pre-tax amount, although many people tip on the total for simplicity. The difference is small: with 8% tax on 100, a 20% tip is 20 before tax or 21.60 after tax.
How does rounding each share up work?
Each person’s exact share is rounded up to the step you choose, and the extra becomes part of the tip. With 230 split four ways (57.50 each) and rounding to the next whole unit, everyone pays 58, the table collects 232 and the effective tip rises from 15% to 16%.
Do I need to tip in the UAE or Saudi Arabia?
Tipping is appreciated but not required. Many restaurant bills already include a service charge, and prices include VAT (5% in the UAE, 15% in Saudi Arabia). Where no service charge is added, 10% is a common amount for good service.
What if the per-person amount does not divide evenly?
When the exact share has fractions of a cent, some people pay one cent more so the shares add up to the total; the result tells you when that happens. Rounding up avoids the problem.
