Every app has its own favourite audio format: WhatsApp voice notes are OPUS, iPhone voice memos are M4A, browser recorders produce WebM, and Windows sound recorder makes WAV. MP3 is the one format that every phone, car stereo, transcription service and upload form accepts. This converter turns any of them into MP3, M4A, OGG or WAV.
Conversion uses FFmpeg running as WebAssembly in your browser. Choosing a bitrate is the only decision for lossy targets: 64 kbps for speech, 128-192 kbps for music. WAV is uncompressed (about 10 MB per minute) and only worth choosing when an editor or transcription service demands it.

Frequently asked questions
Which format should I use for a transcription service?
Most accept MP3 and M4A; some prefer WAV. MP3 at 64-96 kbps mono is small and perfectly adequate for speech recognition.
Does converting to WAV improve quality?
No. WAV stores the decoded audio uncompressed, but what was lost in the original lossy file does not come back. Use WAV only when an application requires it.
Are tags (title, artist, cover art) kept?
No. Metadata is stripped so no personal information travels with the file. Add tags afterwards in your music app if you need them.
