Trim the silence off a voice memo, cut a quote out of an interview or keep just the chorus of a song. The audio cutter draws the waveform of your file so you can see where speech and music start and stop, and lets you set the start and end by dragging two handles or by typing exact times.

Play the selection to check it, add a fade in or fade out so the clip does not start or end abruptly, and export as MP3, M4A (AAC) or WAV. The cut is made by FFmpeg in your browser with millisecond precision. Because MP3 and AAC are lossy, the selection is re-encoded; choose 192 kbps or more for music.

How to use it

  1. Drop an audio file (MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, OPUS, FLAC or WebM).
  2. Drag the start and end handles on the waveform, or type times such as 1:23.5 in the fields. Arrow keys nudge a focused handle.
  3. Click Play selection to listen, and set a fade in and fade out if you like.
  4. Pick the output format and click Cut and export, then download the clip.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The waveform is decoded by your browser and the export is made by FFmpeg running in WebAssembly on your device.

Can I cut out the middle and keep the rest?

This tool keeps the part between the handles. To remove a middle section, export the part before it and the part after it separately.

Why does the waveform not appear for my file?

The waveform is decoded by the browser, which cannot read every format (for example AMR or WMA, and some OPUS files in older Safari). You can still cut such files with the time fields, because the export uses FFmpeg.

Which format should I choose?

MP3 plays everywhere. M4A (AAC) is smaller at the same quality and preferred by Apple devices. WAV is uncompressed and large; use it only when an editor asks for it.
