Cover letter

A good cover letter is short and specific: it names the role and the company, gives two or three pieces of evidence that you can do the job, and asks for an interview. This template enforces that structure. You write every sentence; nothing is generated, so the letter sounds like you. The bracketed hints in the default text tell you what each paragraph should do; replace them.

Type {role} and {company} anywhere in the paragraphs and they are filled in from the fields, so one letter can be reused for several applications by changing two fields. Without a hiring manager's name the greeting becomes "Dear Hiring Manager,". The results panel counts the words and warns above 450, since most readers expect a single page.

Print it or save it as a PDF in a classic letter layout, or use "Copy result" to paste the plain text into an application form or an email.

How to use it

  1. Enter your name and contact details, then the recipient, company and role.
  2. Rewrite the opening paragraph in your own words.
  3. Fill one to three body points with specific achievements that match the job advert.
  4. Edit the closing, pick a sign-off, and check the word count.
  5. Click Print / Save as PDF, or copy the text for an online form.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save it as a PDF?

Click Print / Save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" (Chrome, Edge) or the PDF button (macOS) as the printer. Only the document is printed; the rest of the page is hidden.

Does this write the letter for me?

No. It gives you a proven structure and fills in names; the content is yours. That keeps it accurate and in your own voice.

How long should a cover letter be?

Usually 250 to 400 words, and never more than a page. The tool warns you above 450 words.

"Yours sincerely" or "Yours faithfully"?

In British usage, "Yours faithfully" goes with "Dear Sir or Madam" or "Dear Hiring Manager", and "Yours sincerely" with a named person. American letters generally use "Sincerely" either way.

Is anything I type stored or sent?

No. The document is built in your browser as you type and disappears when you close or reload the page. Save the PDF if you need a copy.
